After 53 years together, any likening of our civil partnership registration to a wedding seems a bit ridiculous. Virginal white? Much too late for that. A best man? We are each other’s best man. Bride and groom? It’s never been quite like that for us – yet how clearly we remember our married friends in our early days making tactful attempts to figure out our relationship: “Which of you does the cooking?” they would ask, or even once, “Which of you plumps the cushions?” |
